Go under both the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge, around Alcatraz, and past the SF skyline. For all the details on our dinner cruise experience, plus photos and maps, see my page on our dinner cruise in San Francisco. The Red and White Fleet in San Francisco is a family-owned business that started offering this cruise in 1939. A one hour tour of the Bay, along the San Francisco waterfront, out to the bridge, under the Golden Gate, past Alcatraz, and back to Fisherman's Wharf. Good, close views of Alcatraz and passes by the Pier 39 sea lions coming and going.
Benicia Historic Sightseeing Cruises
The crew lets you help with the sails and the steering if you want (you don't have to, though). The Golden Gate Sunset Cruise in San Francisco goes out on the Red & White Fleet. This is a fun way to get out on the bay and see the city as the sun goes down, with all the lights coming on.
The Sausalito Ferry
What is the difference between the Golden Gate Bay Cruise and the Escape from the Rock Cruise? An SF Bay sunset cruise is the ultimate Bay Area experience! See the most iconic sights from the very special vantage of the water.
Experience A Piece of San Francisco History
The City Experiences cruises (brunch, dinner, and special events) leave from Pier 3 near the Ferry Building at the end of Market Street. There's a parking lot at Pier 3 that they make available for cruises leaving from there. Only one company, City Experiences, at cityexperiences.com, runs ferries out to Alcatraz where visitors can get off the boat and explore the island.
SF Bay Sunset Catamaran Cruise
Catamarans offer a unique sailing experience, thanks to their stability, spaciousness, and smooth ride. With their two hulls, they provide a steady and comfortable journey. It’s hard to beat the classic San Francisco Bay Cruise. This popular adventure allows you to sit back and take in the beauty of the bay while exploring iconic landmarks and enjoying unrivalled city views. A popular option is the Golden Gate Bay Cruise offered by Red & White Fleet, which has been a fan favourite for decades. This cruise takes you underneath the majestic Golden Gate Bridge, past the famous Pier 39 sea lions, and even offers a glimpse of the mysterious Alcatraz Island.
These San Francisco boat cruises leave from Fisherman's Wharf several times a day. Discover the most iconic sights of San Francisco on a hop-on, hop-off tour. Sit back and relax in the comfort of one of our open-top buses, as an entertaining audio guide tells you about the city’s unique history. Our two-hour sunset cruise is the perfect way to cap off a day in San Francisco. Ever wanted to see the California sun drop slowly into the Pacific Ocean, framed by the majestic Golden Gate, from the middle of San Francisco Bay?
These types of schooners were designed for upright, comfortable and stable sailing. Located in a globally cherished location, views of our historic bay from the water are incomparable to any available from the land. People travel from all over the world to experience sailing on the San Francisco Bay. Just about all the San Francisco boat tours sail past Alcatraz Island.
Classic San Francisco Bay Cruise
It's slightly different from the SF Bay Cruise as this one offers 30 additional minutes on the water. You'll pass Sausalito, Angel Island and take some time cruising past Alcatraz Island. I've been on the water with both companies several times and they both offer great service.
The return journey offers beautiful views of the city, particularly for those returning from the Alcatraz Night Tour. A great opportunity to tick two activities off your list if you’re short on time when visiting San Francisco. Whether you’re looking for something the whole family can enjoy or a romantic evening out for two, your sail on Adventure Cat is sure to be a memorable highlight.

This is a good choice for a real sailing experience without the tilting deck of a traditional sailboat. The catamaran stays level, so it's better for younger children and less able sailors. Better for the queasy stomach, as well; smoother ride than a sailboat. This is a super fun boat ride all around the Bay, sailing under both the Golden Gate and the Bay Bridges, past Alcatraz Island and along the San Francisco waterfront. I also wanted to add this one because these are some of my favorite San Francisco boat tours. What makes this one of my favorite San Francisco bay tours is the combination of the food/champagne and the cruise around the bay in the morning.
The schooner is located in beautiful downtown Sausalito in the historic Sausalito Yacht Harbor, Slip 465. With a harbor surrounded by municipal parking and public transportation, this yacht is the easiest to board in the county. As always all views and opinions expressed are my own. Want to see the San Francisco Bay as the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean? Our 1.5-hour Sunset Sail is for those who want a serene, romantic experience.
